TOP LEFT: The Resolution Center recently held its 17th Annual “Evening at the Movies” fundraiser at the MJR Marketplace Theater in Sterling Heights and the place was packed with those who support the center’s community mediation program. Craig Pappas, executive director, said the evening — featuring food, spirits, an awards ceremony and a ticket to see a movie — raised $12,000 for the center’s day-to-day operations. Among those honored during the evening was 72nd District Court Judge Cynthia S. Platzer of Port Huron, who received the center’s 2009 Conflict Resolution Advocacy Award. She is pictured with longtime attorney Anthony Bellanca, who served as honorary chairman of the annual fundraiser and who also was honored for his volunteer mediation work at the center.
BOTTOM LEFT: During the evening, Volunteer of the Year awards were bestowed upon Ruth Pfaehler (left) of Grosse Pointe and Jane Lehman of Lexington. Pappas said Lehman is a primary force in the center’s mediation efforts in St. Clair County while continuing her involvement in cases across Macomb County. Pappas said Pfaehler is a devoted volunteer mediator. Both women, he said, are “very dedicated, reliable and committed” to the center’s work.
RIGHT: The annual fundraiser is a popular event and many members of the legal community turn out to show their support. The non-profit organization, founded in 1993, has about 85 mediators serving the courts, businesses, organizations, schools and residents in both Macomb and St. Clair Counties. Those gathered for the festivities included (left to right) Father Randy Phillips; Dr. Mary Dumm; Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh; Eric Jackson, a member of the center’s board of directors; and New Baltimore attorney Thomas Rombach.
