WLAM Forum explores pay equity

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) will host its 92nd Annual Meeting, “Unconscious Gender Bias: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt Your Career — A Forum on Pay Equity and Family Responsibilities Discrimination’ on Saturday, May 15 at the Henry Ford Museum.
Overviews of pay equity and family responsibilities discrimination will be presented. Michigan State Rep. Rebekah Warren will then provide the status of legislation.
Next, a “how to” session will be conducted, “Positioning Yourself for Increased Compensation and Creative Employment Terms.”
The timely topics come soon after Equity Pay Day, which occurred on April 20, and both topics are currently being addressed in state legislation with the support of WLAM’s Gender Equity Committee.
Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly will participate in the business portion of the meeting and will administer the oath for incoming WLAM officers. Lysa Postula-Stein of Farmington Hills is the incoming president.
WLAM will present trial attorney Kathleen Bogas with the 2010 Jean Ledwith King Leadership Award, established by WLAM to recognize and honor a community leader who shows vision, takes risks and holds true to beliefs in the face of vocal opposition.
Bogas is a leader in civil rights law and a leader of the fight to achieve equality in the workplace.
WLAM strives to alleviate the ongoing struggles of female attorneys between their personal and professional lives.
This specific venue was selected so that after the conference, attendees can join their family and friends in enjoying the sites of Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
