Tailgate lunch held at county courthouse

IT WAS A "HOUSE DIVIDED" at the Oakland County Circuit Court building last Friday as Michigan and Michigan State fans warmed up for the big game with a tailgate luncheon featuring football cuisine. Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan (left), a proud Spartan alum, is the brains behind the annual affair, which drew upward of 120 fans of the respective schools. “What I like about it is that it gives everyone a chance to mingle, folks you see just a few seconds a day,” she said. “No one is neutral on this game, so there is lots of spirit. Court staff drop off flags and bowls in the week leading up. People bring their favorite dish to share, usually plated on a State or U-M platter.”

FRIENDLY RIVALS (right) Circuit Court Judges Mary Ellen Brennan and James Alexander, were all smiles at the tailgate event, each sporting their favorite colors. “Judge Alexander and I have a bet each year,” Brennan said of the game, which the Spartan’s won 34-17. “He has to wear a State lapel pin. Ouch.”
