NALS of Detroit recently conducted a CLE After Hours Meeting at the offices of Barris, Sott, Denn, & Driker PLLC in Detroit.  Attorney Jeffrey M. Stefan II (seated, center) of Barris Sott spoke on “Real Estate Tax Appeals: Primer.”  Welcoming Stefan to the meeting were (seated, left to right) NALS President Mary Tortomose and NALS Secretary and Treasurer Cindy Taylor, both with Barris Sott; along with (standing, left to right) NALS Parliamentarian Sherry Oke with Dickinson Wright PLLC; NALS Vice President Lynne Bussinger, Barris Sott retiree; Susan Sweetman with Elder Law Center Neighborhood Legal Services; NALS Director Margaret Reilly with Miller, Canfield, Paddock, & Stone PLC; NALS Director Sharon Julian with On The Record Recording and Video; NALS Director Lynn Johnson and Denise Schneider, both with Miller Canfield; and John Taylor. “I’m going to give a general overview of how assessed and taxable values are determined and how to appeal your taxes if you feel your assessment is too high or otherwise incorrect,” noted Stefan.
