Congressman Hansen Clarke is scheduled to speak today at the Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus.
Clarke’s appearance, from noon to 1:30 p.m., is part of an “Integrity in Our Communities” speaker series sponsored by The Thomas M. Cooley Law School Center for Ethics, Service, and Professionalism; Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. Fraternity; and Edge For Excellence.
According to John Nussbaumer, associate dean at Cooley, Clarke was chosen because he’s an outstanding role model for the 20 college students participating in Cooley’s CLEO College Prelaw Summer Institute.
“Like Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and others, he represents a new era of professionalism and ethics in government representing the City of Detroit,” Nussbaumer said.
Clarke’s topic is titled, “Ethics, Service and Professionalism in Everything I Do.”
Clarke was raised on Detroit’s lower eastside, the the son of an African-American mother and Indian father who died when Clarke was just eight years old.
He received a scholarship from Cornell University, where he was elected to the student seat on the University Board of Trustees, and eventually graduated with a degree in fine arts.
After earning his law degree from Georgetown Law School, Clarke returned to Detroit. He was elected three times to the Michigan House of Representatives and twice to the Michigan Senate.
In 2010, Clarke was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
