The Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) recently hosted a meeting featuring guest speaker Steve Auvil (far right) at Loccino Italian Grill in Troy. Welcoming Auvil to the event were (left to right) Michelle Alamo of Dickinson Wright PLLC, MIPLA Attendance chair; Jim Stevens of Reising Ethington PC, MIPLA Board member; and Juliet R. Kavanaugh of Dierker & Associates PC, MIPLA president. Auvil is a partner at Benesch with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Shanghai, White Plains and Wilmington. He discussed the new Leahy-Smith America Invests Act which, he said, “changes our patent system from a ‘first to invent’ system to a ‘first to file’ system.”
