Serving the underserved

The State Bar of Michigan recently invited area attorneys to the 2011 Detroit Pro Bono Fair hosted at Dykema’s Detroit office in the Renaissance Center. Welcoming attendees to the fair were (left to right) Heidi Naasko, Pro Bono and Diversity counsel with Dykema Gossett PLLC; Robert Mathis, State Bar of Michigan Pro Bono Service counsel; and Peggy Costello with University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.  The Pro Bono Fair offered a practical and expedient way to learn more about legal services organizations and the programs that help thousands who are in urgent need of civil legal aid. The event offered a chance to learn more, network with colleagues, and consider new ways to provide pro bono service. “We hope to really connect the private bar with the richness of the agencies which are here in the southeastern Michigan area — trying to find just the right opportunity for volunteers in an era where we have increasing needs for the underserved and low income individuals,” said Naasko.
