ABA offers free CLE programs

American Bar Association President Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III has announced that the association is now offering free continuing legal education programs to its members.

“The ABA affirms its commitment to member service and education through our new CLE Premier Speaker Series,” Robinson said. “Each year, the series will provide ABA members up to 18 free continuing legal education credits through monthly programs. Every program will feature a faculty of today’s most prominent and influential legal practitioners.”

The programs in the CLE Premier Speaker Series are 90-minute webinars, and participants will be able to submit questions to the presenters.

The inaugural program in the series, “Trying High-Profile Cases in Today’s Media Environment,” will be presented on Nov. 21.

Heading the faculty will be David Boies, chairman of BSF LLP in Armonk, N.Y.

Boies was named “One of the Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine.

The program will also feature: Randall M. Kessler, founding partner, Kessler & Solomiany; Prof. Jonathan Turley of George Washington University, Judge Gene E. K. Pratter of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and Judge Barbara M. G. Lynn of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Robinson said that the practitioners who were selected to present the programs “will offer insights on the pressing legal issues of the day that otherwise would be unavailable to the lawyers who participate in the CLE series,” he said.

The CLE credit available through the programs is enough to fulfill many lawyers’ yearly mandatory continuing legal education requirement.

For ABA members, he said, the programs represent thousands of dollars in potential savings.

“The ABA’s continuing legal education is widely recognized for its quality and often referenced as one of the most valued benefits of membership,” Robinson said.

“Substantive CLE is also one of the ways the ABA helps advance the legal profession.”
