Former State Bar of Michigan president and Professionalism Orientation Program founder Edward Pappas (front row, second from left) was the keynote speaker for the SBM’s Professionalism in Action program held recently at Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus. Launched in  2009 under Pappas’ leadership, the program brings students, local attorneys and judges together to discuss the role and importance of ethics and professionalism in the study and practice of law. Before incoming Cooley students step into their first law school class, they learn from experienced attorneys and judges how to spot and resolve ethical dilemmas based on real-life case scenarios. Also taking part in the recent program were (front row, left to right) Cooley Auburn Hills Associate Dean John Nussbaumer, Sayeda Davidson of Lakeshore Legal Aid, State Bar of Michigan Executive Director Janet Welch, Jennifer Grieco of Neuman Anderson PC, and Cooley Auburn Hills Assistant Dean Prof. Lisa Halushka; along with (back row, left to right) Cooley Lansing Associate Dean Jim Robb; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Gershwin Drain; Gerry Gleeson of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, & Stone PLC; Emil Semaan of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office; and Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor John Gemellaro.
