Warnez takes over as SBM Rep Assembly chair

Dana M. Warnez, who took over in July as president of the Macomb County Bar Association, has been sworn in as chair of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) Representative Assembly for 2012-13.

Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Riordan officiated at the Sept. 20 ceremony held during the SBM Annual Meeting at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

The 150-member Representative Assembly (RA) is the final policy-making body of the State Bar.

It was created in 1971 by the Michigan Supreme Court at the request of SBM’s Board of Commissioners in order to increase geographical representation and member participation in SBM policy.

Warnez, a Center Line attorney, was first elected to the RA in 2005 and she represents the 16th Circuit.

She served as chair of the District D Character and Fitness Committee from 2007-09 and as a member from 2005-07. She also served as the representative liaison to the State Bar Law-Related Education and Public Outreach Committee.

Warnez has served as chair of the Macomb County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and the Macomb County Bar Foundation, where she oversees both the Kimberly M. Cahill Memorial Fund and the Scholarship Committee.

Cahill, Dana’s sister, died in January 2008 following a brief battle with cancer.

Cahill, who served as the State Bar’s 72nd president, practiced law with her sister and mother, Florence Schoenherr-Warnez, specializing in probate and estate planning, family law, commercial and residential real estate transaction, and real estate development.

Warnez is also a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, a case evaluation panelist for the Macomb County Probate Court, and a hearing panelist on the State Bar’s Attorney Discipline Board.
