Obituary: Michael A. Novak

Michael A. Novak, Of Counsel at the law firm of Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton PC in Troy, died from a heart attack on Sunday, Jan. 27. He was 57.

Novak had counseled clients in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years. 

In addition to civil litigation experience, Novak’s practice included the representation of corporate executives and transactional work on behalf of recording artists, personal managers, concert promoters and facilities, writers, visual artists and producers.

He represented radio and television personalities as well along with other high-profile individuals.

Novak was a founding board member of the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea near Ann Arbor and served as a member of the Detroit Institute of Arts Cinematic Arts Council. 

He was a frequent lecturer at law schools nationwide on various Entertainment Law topics.

Novak was a graduate of New York University and Wayne State University School of Law.

He was admitted to practice law in Michigan in 1980 and in California in 1985.

Novak is survived by his wife, Loretta Ames.
