About 3,000 runners and walkers participated in Cooley Law School’s 5K Race for Education and Impression 5’s Capital City River Run Half Marathon last month – all part of the Capital City River Run Weekend of Races. Race participants nominate a favorite school for a chance to win money in two ways — proceeds from the race and through the School Competition. Race proceeds go to schools that are selected through a random drawing from nominations made by race participants and the School Competition awards the three schools with the most nominations with cash prizes of $1,000 for 1st, $750 for 2nd, and $500 for 3rd. The winning schools in the Lansing area were chosen by random drawings and each receives a percentage of the Cooley 5K race proceeds. “Cooley Law School is proud to help raise funds for our schools, especially at a time when they are struggling with tightened budgets,” said Terry Carella, Cooley’s communications director and 5K race director. “Every year I look forward to contacting the winning schools to let them know that they will be receiving some unexpected money. It’s a great feeling to know that the Cooley 5K has made such a difference to the schools in our community.”
