Clerk’s office workers visit SOS location
A partnership between Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson allows citizens the chance to one-stop shop.
The clerk’s office will be in the Secretary of State’s Clinton Township on Wednesday, Deeember 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Workers will be available for Macomb County birth and death certificates, business registrations, marriage licenses, circuit court records, voter registration, concealed pistol license applications and veteran ID cards. Members of the register of deeds staff will be available for Macomb County property records.
The SOS office is located 37015 S. Gratiot at the corner of 16 Mile.

Man arrested 11 times in error can’t sue
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man arrested or detained nearly a dozen times because he was mistaken for a suspected drug dealer cannot sue Las Vegas police, the Nevada Supreme Court has ruled.
Justices recently dismissed Francisco Gonzalez’s suit against the police department, saying the agency was immune from such lawsuits.
North Las Vegas police issued an arrest warrant for suspected drug dealer Francisco Garcia-Gonzalez in 2007 and entered his information into a law enforcement database. Justices said the suspect’s physical description and birth date matched Gonzalez, though his attorneys disputed that.
Gonzalez sued for negligence and false imprisonment but a judge dismissed the suit. When Gonzalez appealed, the high court was sympathetic but upheld the lower court’s action.
Real estate lawyer loses license after fraud
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has disbarred a Davenport real estate lawyer who was convicted of helping buyers secure inflated mortgage loans before the 2008 market crash.
The court recently revoked the law license of Marc Engelmann, who is serving a three-year prison term on fraud charges.
Engelmann represented a seller of nine residential properties to the same two buyers. In each transaction, he filed official statements that overstated the sales prices by $30,000. Lenders approved higher loans for the buyers based on the inflated price. The seller gave a kickback of $30,000 to the buyers at closing.
AG asked to rule on chicken controversy
VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) — Is a fighting rooster a chicken?
The Advocate reports the Evangeline Parish Police Jury asked the state Attorney General’s Office to officially weigh in on the issue, questioning whether uncertainty over the fowl’s scientific name might invalidate the 2008 state ban on cockfighting.
The state’s top legal minds determined this month that a chicken is a chicken is a chicken.
At issue was whether roosters that are pitted against each other in cockfights fit the legal definition of “chicken” used in the state ban, which defines the fowl in question as “any bird which is of the species Gallus gallus.”
