Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc (LAD) recently conducted a free clinic on expungement of criminal records at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit. The event was held in partnership with Thomas M. Cooley Law School and the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. Lynda Krupp (pictured, managing attorney of the Private Attorney Involvement Unit of LAD’s Civil Law Group conducted the clinic. Even though the weather was bad, Krupp said more than 60 people attended in hopes of removing a criminal conviction from their records so they can apply for jobs. She said Michigan allows for expungement, or removal from the public record, of records of single criminal convictions after five years.
