Area attorney prepares to lead State Bar

New Baltimore attorney Thomas C. Rombach will take over next month as president of the State Bar of Michigan.

Rombach practices general law at The Law Offices of Thomas C. Rombach. The Cooley Law School graduate, who formerly served as president of the Macomb County Bar Association, will succeed Brian Einhorn in leading in the 42,000-member organization.

He will be installed during the SBM annual meeting scheduled Sept. 17-19 in Grand Rapids.

The installation ceremony is set for Sept. 18

Earlier this year, Rombach was honored by The Resolution Center in Mount Clemens for his work in creating the center more than 20 years ago.

Rombach received the center’s Conflict Resolution Advocacy Award.

Meanwhile, during the State Bar meeting, the following individuals will be honored at the organization’s annual awards banquet:

• Roberts P. Hudson Award: Francine Cullari and Carl E. Ver Beek.
• Frank J. Kelley Distinguished Public Service Award: Corbin R. Davis.
• Champion of Justice Award: Bridgette A. Carr, Brian L. Morrow, Michael L. Pitt, Dawn A. Van Hoek, and DeBoer et al v Snyder et al plaintiff legal team (Kenneth M. Mogill, Dana M. Nessel, Robert A. Sedler and Carole M. Stanyar).
• John W. Cummiskey Pro Bono Award: Susan M. Kornfield.
•?Kimberly M. Cahill Bar Leadership Award: Thomas G. McNeill.
• Liberty Bell Award: Matilyn Sarosi and Gary B. Lasceski.

The following individuals will receive State Bar Representative Assembly awards on Sept. 18:

2014 State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly Award Recipients:

• Michael Franck Award: Julie I. Fershtman.
• Unsung Hero Award: Susan F. Reed.

During the annual gathering,  held at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, the Board of Commissioners will meet and the Representative Assembly, the SBM’s policy-making body, will hold a business meeting.

In addition to the awards banquet and inaugural luncheon, the meeting will feature reception to recognized attorneys for 50 years of SBM membership.

A Celebrating Diversity Reception is scheduled and the various law schools across Michigan also are planning receptions.
