Trio honored for helping the homeless

THE MICHIGAN HOMELESS COALITION is dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who are homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless. For their work on behalf of those in need, three people were recognized recently by the organization at its annual dinner, among them 37th District Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh (right). Sabaugh and Valerie Nunn (center), director of the Macomb County Department of Human Services, were honored for their work establishing and continuing the Eviction Diversion Program, which is the first of its kind in Macomb County. The voluntary program, which began early this year in Sabaugh’s court, is intended to assist landlords and tenants in resolving back rent situations without a credit-damaging court judgment. Pictured with Sabaugh and Nunn is Tim Joy, who was presented with the Barbara Bauman Homeless Advocate Award.
