The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law recently presented a lecture by Nelson Tebbe (center) of Brooklyn and Cornell Law Schools as part of its annual McElroy Lecture Series on Law and Religion. Tebbe spoke on “Religion and Social Coherentism: A Progressive Theory of Religious Freedom.” In 1998, UDM Law began the McElroy Lecture Series to address prominent issues of religion, law and society. The school is able to sponsor this event due to a bequest from one of its graduates, Philip J. McElroy, to establish the Center of Law and Religion at UDM Law.
