Macomb County clerk unveils e-election reminder system

Macomb County Clerk/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh has launched a service that allows residents to sign up for electronic reminders for election-related topics.

Residents can choose to receive reminders via text, e-mail, or both.

Reminders are currently available on upcoming election dates (to alert voters about upcoming elections in Macomb County) and upcoming campaign finance filing deadlines (for candidates and treasurers who have filing obligations under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act).

Sabaugh plans to expand the list of available topics in the future.

To provide the service, Sabaugh’s office is utilizing an application called GovDelivery, which is already being used on Macomb County’s website to notify users about changes to a particular webpage.

Sabaugh said that she is simply expanding on a service for which the county already pays.

“Everyone leads busy lives,” she said. “This is an easy and efficient way to remind voters about upcoming elections and remind campaign finance committees about upcoming filing deadlines, all at no additional cost to the taxpayers.”

Residents who sign up for election date reminders will receive a reminder two weeks prior to election day and a second reminder the day before election day.

Candidates and treasurers who sign up for campaign finance reminders will receive a reminder about one week prior to the Close of Books for campaign finance statements, Sabaugh noted.

The link to sign up for the electronic reminders can be found on the Macomb County Election Department webpage: http://clerk.macombgov.org/elections
