Teenage boy killed by friend he was trying to wake

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A Montana boy who woke up frightened by two faces looking through his window fired a shot from the gun he kept in his bedroom, not realizing the teenagers on the other side of the glass were his friends.

The shot struck a 15-year-old boy in the head and he died at a hospital a short time later, Billings police officers said.

Police identified the victim as Mackeon Schulte, the Billings Gazette reported.

Schulte and another boy were spending the night together and showed up at their friend’s house at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, May 17, according to a statement by Billings Police Chief Rich St. John.

The two knocked on their friend’s window and threw pebbles in an attempt to wake him, St. John said.

Police were withholding the names and ages of the shooter and the uninjured friend because they are juveniles and no arrests had been made.
