HOWELL (AP) — Ex-Detroit Tigers pitcher Denny McLain and his attorney have been ordered to pay slightly more than $7,000 in attorney fees in a breach-of-contract case.
Judge Theresa Brennan said recently lawyer Barry Powers “was trying to intimidate and harass” Joe Dobson, who sued McLain for $1,910.
Powers tells the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell that Brennan holds a grudge against him for asking her to recuse herself from the case.
A jury in July ruled against McLain. Dobson initially sued in a Livingston County court, saying McLain owed him for unpaid wages for a sales job. McLain countersued seeking more than $25,000.
McLain won the 1968 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young awards after winning 31 games and leading Detroit to the World Series.
