Some defendants dismissed from inmate death lawsuit

DETROIT (AP) — A judge has dismissed about 30 defendants, including 16 sheriff’s deputies, from a lawsuit brought by family of a man who died in an area jail.

U.S. District Court Judge Linda Parker also recently agreed with Macomb County and its jail medical services provider to sever allegations of David Stojcevski’s brother, who was jailed at the same time, from the lawsuit.

More than a dozen defendants remain.

The Detroit Free Press reports Vladimir Stojcevski will file his own claim.

David Stokavski, 32, died in June 2014 in the jail.

The lawsuit says Stokavski suffered serious withdrawals from drug use and died after serving 16 days of a 30-day careless driving sentence. Video shows him hallucinating in his cell and shaking with seizures.
