The Michigan Legal Help Self-Help Center of Macomb County is open for business, offering resources and assistance to people who are handling simple civil legal problems without a lawyer. Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano (second from right), who two years ago served on the Macomb circuit court bench, was among the dignitaries attending the opening of the center last month. The center, located in the James C. Daner Law Library on the fifth floor of the courthouse, was created to help people of low or moderate incomes who cannot afford to hire an attorney, Tripp said. Similar centers are open around the state but the Macomb location is unique as the only one operated by a legal aid association, according to Tripp, whose organization oversees the center. The center is open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekday except Wednesday.
