Woman who slammed officer with car gets jail

AUBURN HILLS (AP) — A woman has been ordered to spend a year in jail after pleading no contest to hitting a Detroit-area police officer with her car and slamming him into his patrol car.

Breianna Smart appeared recently in an Oakland County Circuit Court, where Judge Hala Jarbou said she “showed complete disrespect for law enforcement.”

Smart apologized during sentencing. She pleaded to assaulting a police officer, fleeing and eluding and other charges.

Auburn Hills police released dashcam video showing the Oct. 23 incident, when Officer Martin Mikolajczak tried to arrest Smart for driving on a suspended license.

The two struggle, then Smart jumps into her car and puts it in reverse, her open door striking Mikolajczak and slamming him into his car. She then drives away.

Mikolajczak recovered and returned to duty.
