Pregnant shoplifting suspect loses lawsuit against police officer

TAYLOR (AP) — A pregnant shoplifting suspect who blamed Detroit-area police for a stillborn birth has failed to persuade an appeals court to restore her lawsuit.

Shenika Parchman, who was nine months pregnant, claims a Taylor police officer treated her roughly during an arrest at a Meijer store in 2011.

A week later, she gave birth but the boy did not survive.

The appeals court last week said “no reasonable juror” could conclude that the officer harmed Parchman or violated her rights.

Detroit federal Judge Denise Page Hood dismissed the case in January.
