Cheerleader loses appeal over foot injury

ROCHESTER (AP) — A dispute over a cheerleader’s injury at Oakland University has been decided in favor of the squad’s former coach.

Brooke Keel was a cheerleader for the Golden Grizzlies in 2010 when she fell during a tricky stunt called a “full-up” and hurt her foot.

She later sued Tara Palmer, claiming the coach didn’t take enough precautions and was grossly negligent.

But the appellate court disagreed recently and affirmed a lower court decision that dismissed the case. The court notes Keel’s own expert concedes that even experienced cheerleaders have accidents.

In a 3-0 decision, the court says the precise reason for Keel’s fall was unknown and Palmer can’t be blamed.
