Educator puckers up with pig after kids reach goal

FARMINGTON HILLS (AP) — An educator puckered up with a pig to the delight of a gym full of families in suburban Detroit after children topped a sizable reading goal.

The Detroit News reports  youngsters at Alameda Early Childhood Center in Farmington Hills had been challenged to read 4,000 books.

Terry Schneider, the science/media specialist at Alameda, promised to smooch a swine if they met the goal. The kids came through, reading more than 5,500 books. Schneider kept his word, planting a kiss on the year-old pig named Dillon.

State Rep. Christine Greig of Farmington Hills was on hand and read to the crowd from Laura Numeroff’s “If You Give a Pig a Pancake,” one of the kids’ favorites.
