No breakout, but a break-in at police HQ

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — It’s not unheard of for an arrested person to try breaking out of a police department, but in one Georgia community, officers at police headquarters charged a man with breaking in.

The Gainesville Times reports that police arrested Samuel Espejel-Sanchez, 32, on charges including interfering with government property.

Officials say Espejel-Sanchez broke into the Gainesville Police Department by climbing a fence. Officers inside the building heard “glass shattering and noises” from a secured area. Officials said the suspect broke windows and doors, causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

Police say he appeared to be hallucinating and claimed that people were after him.
