Christensen Law is offering its “Safe Ride Home” program to people who drink too much on the Fourth of July.
“We have every reason to believe our ‘Safe Ride Home’ program has saved lives over the last few holidays,” said Dave Christensen, founder of Christensen Law in Southfield. “We’ve helped more than 300 people return home safely, and we want to continue offering that service to the community.”
Christensen said he wants to help people get home safely from their Fourth of July celebrations — and without being charged with driving under the influence (DUI).
The cost of a driver’s auto insurance can increase significantly if the driver has a DUI on his or her record, he noted.
“We want to decrease the number of people killed on Michigan roads each year,” Christensen said. “The number rose 10 percent in 2015 compared with the previous year.”
The National Safety Council recently reported that 982 people were killed on state roads in Michigan during 2015.
As a personal injury lawyer, Christensen has seen too many people suffer as a result of drunk driving.
For years, he has been involved with organizations such as the Washtenaw Council on Alcoholism, Spectrum Treatment that deal with alcohol/drug addiction.
Those who have had to much to drink this Fourth of July, Christensen said, should call a cab or Uber to take them from the bar to their home.
They should pay for the ride, obtain a receipt and, the next day, email a copy of the receipt along with a copy of their driver’s license or State of Michigan ID card to saferidehome@davidchristensenlaw.com.
The law firm will reimburse cost up to $35, he said.
There are some restrictions:
• The offer is good from 1 p.m. on Monday, July 4th to 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
• You must be at least 21 years old.
• Maximum reimbursement is $35, good for a one-way ride to your home.
• Receipts must be received by Christensen Law by midnight, July 6 to be eligible for reimbursement.
• Ride must be within Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw counties.
• Provider of ride must be a licensed taxi company or Uber.
• A copy of the official taxi company or Uber receipt along with a copy of a valid driver’s license or State of Michigan ID card should be emailed to saferidehome@davidchristensenlaw.com or sent via U.S. mail to
