A ceremony was held recently at the Macomb County Circuit Court Building to honor the latest graduates of the county’s Veterans’ Treatment Court. Among those on hand for the event were (left to right): Lisa Ellis, circuit court services director; William Bailey, circuit court probation; 41B District Court Judge Carrie Fuca; Kumar Palepu, assistant prosecuting attorney; Barbara Reyes, veterans outreach coordinator at the John Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit; Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark Switalski; Gail Pamukov-Miller, board president of Friends of the Macomb County Veterans’ Treatment Court; Ryan Zemke, 41B district court defense attorney; and Damon Daniels, therapist, Class A training center. Switalski presides over felony cases while Fuca handles misdemeanor cases referred to the treatment court. The mission of the court, which was organized in 2012, is to treat the underlying issues that bring veterans into the criminal justice system.
