Brown, an associate attorney in the firm's Corporate and Employment practice group, specializes in employment law, representing employers by responding to various types of claims including wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour claims. Brown's experiences range from administrative proceedings to complex litigation. Butzel Long family law attorney Ivonne M. Soler has been appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan. She will fill a vacancy on the commission, serving the remainder of a three-year term expiring December 17, 2017. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
The 15-member commission develops and maintains a unified policy and plan of action to serve the needs of Michigan's Hispanic and Latino residents.
Based in Butzel Long's Detroit office, Soler concentrates her practice in the areas of family law litigation and commercial litigation. She represents clients with family and domestic relations issues, including divorce, property division, spousal support, child support, child custody and parenting time, change of domicile, pre and post-nuptial agreements, post-judgment enforcement, adoption and assisted reproduction (family building) issues.
Soler also represents clients in general matters pertaining to business and commercial litigation, including breach of contract actions and non-compete, trade secrets, and unfair competition disputes.

Dickinson Wright attorney James B. Perry recently spoke at the 5th Annual Employment Law Workshop presented by the American Society of Employers.
Perry spoke at the "Plenary Session Legislative Update: Federal and Michigan" with Michael J. Burns of the American Society of Employers where they spoke on the changing regulatory environment and how it will impact Michigan employers. He also gave a presentation titled "Retaliation, Really?" during the morning breakout sessions. His presentation provided a review of the emphasis on retaliation claims by various employment agencies including the EEOC, NLRB, and Department of Labor, and provided participants with best practices and approaches when investigations are necessary and/or when they go wrong.
Perry is a member in the firm's Detroit office where he focuses his practice on labor & employment and alternative dispute resolution. He has successfully negotiated labor contracts with all major unions for a wide variety of public and private employers. He also has experience before employment agencies including the NLRB, MERC, Department of Labor, and EEOC. Perry is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Labor Law Section and the Detroit Chapter of Labor and Employment Relations Research Association. Attorneys Charles LeFevre and Eric Bowden, partners at Colombo & Colombo PC, presented at a conference for the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants at the Suburban Collection Showplace on Sept. 23. This presentation provided insight into recent activity of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its impact on the automotive dealership industry. In addition, they discussed the changes in federal wage law applicable to dealerships, manufacturers measurement of dealership sales performance and how dealerships are responding to safety recalls.
LeFevre has provided legal counsel to dealerships for nearly 50 years. He knows the laws, the underlying reasons for the laws, and how the laws governing the auto dealership industry are interpreted. He also has a significant amount of expertise in the acquisition and sale of dealerships, entity formation, taxation and estate planning.
Bowden's expertise covers an entire range of auto dealership legal support. He counsels dealerships on how laws impact dealership's day-to-day operations which include: advertising, consumer litigation, government regulation, manufacturer-dealership relations and wage and hour law. Western Michigan University Cooley Law School Professor Lauren Rousseau was chosen by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of its 2016 Women in the Law. Each year, the Women in the Law program honors 30 high-achieving women lawyers in Michigan and their accomplishments.
