DETROIT (AP) — Federal prosecutors in Detroit aren’t objecting to a delay in the second trial of a Chicago Palestinian activist who didn’t disclose her time in an Israeli prison when she got U.S. citizenship.
Lawyers for Rasmea Odeh want the January trial pushed to March after prosecutors filed a new indictment last week. The charge against Odeh hasn’t changed. But the government now wants to present evidence that she was affiliated with terrorists decades ago.
Odeh is accused of lying about her past during the citizenship process in Detroit in 2004. She’s getting a second trial after successfully arguing she should have been allowed to show that she was experiencing post-traumatic stress when she answered questions.
Odeh was convicted of two bombings in Israel in 1969. She says she was tortured into confessing.
