Honoring those who work to resolve conflict

The Resolution Center recently held its annual “Evening at the Movies” fundraiser, an event focused not only on raising money but also honoring those who work to support the programs of the non-profit organization. Among those in the spotlight that night were (left to right) volunteer mediator Curtis Boehmer, 41-A District Court Magistrate Michael Osaer, 41-A District Court Administrator Laura Porter, volunteer mediator Richard Cannon and 41-A District Judge Douglas P. Shepherd. Osaer and Shepherd received the center’s Conflict Resolution Advocacy Award in recognition of their continuing support for alternative dispute resolution. Center officials say the relationship between the court and The Resolution Center has allowed residents and business owners in Shelby and Macomb Townships “greater access to alternative dispute resolution and face-to-face confidential mediation.” Boehmer and Cannon have been volunteer mediators with the center since 2015. Boehmer, of Harbor Beach, is a retired speech pathologist for the Huron Intermediate School District and currently serves as the commander of the Michigan Wing Civil Air Patrol. Cannon, a Lexington resident, is a community development consultant.
