School district settles lawsuits filed by two former students

LANSING (AP) — The Lansing School District has agreed to pay $405,000 to end two lawsuits filed by former students who said they were sexually assaulted on school property.

The Lansing State Journal reports the district agreed in March to pay $180,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a former student who said another student assaulted her in Eastern High School in 2015.

The district also recently agreed to pay $225,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by another ex-student who was raped at the same school’s campus in 2014.

The district had previously denied wrongdoing in both cases.
