A crowd of several thousand veterans, families, friends and the general public is expected to gather for a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, honoring military service members who died in the service of their country.
The Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly will host the 12th annual observance, set for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 28.
Col. Clark C. Barrett, Michigan Army National Guard, is the keynote speaker.
Wreaths will be presented by organizations and taps will be played.
The mission of Great Lakes National Cemetery is to serve the veterans and their eligible family members in providing a national shrine for burial.
Opened for burials in 2005, the cemetery’s 544 acres will be the final resting place for an estimated 244,000 veterans and their dependents. Thus far, some 33,000 veterans and dependents have been interred at
the site.
