The Criminal Law Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association continued its Anatomy of a Criminal Case-2017 brown bag lunch lecture series last month with a look at “Navigating the Transition from State to Federal Court.” Speaking at the program were (left to right) Huntington Woods attorney Robyn B. Frankel and Kim Stout of Kimberly W. Stout PC. The presentation covered the differences between state courts and the federal criminal practice. Topics included “Resources available to federal prosecutors,” “Rule 11 Plea Agreements,” “Number of cases pled and importance of cooperation from the early stages of trial,” “Differences in federal and state trials, including rules of evidence,” “Sentencing guidelines, “Mitigation and Sentencing Memorandums,” and “Immigration issues.”
