The Michigan Supreme Court is mourning the loss of longtime Court Crier David G. Palazzolo.

Palazzolo, who worked for the court since 1980, died at his home on Oct. 14 after a brief illness.

“The court has lost a dedicated and loyal public servant,” said Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman. “For those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Dave, we have lost a dear friend and coworker.

Markman said Palazzolo “was instrumental in keeping the court on track as the court crier, and will be deeply missed.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” he said.

The court crier opens and closes all official Supreme Court sessions and also is responsible for overseeing in-house mail processing, printing, state surplus and building issues.

A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamston.
