Chief judges named to Macomb county courts

The Michigan Supreme Court has re-appointed Judge James M. Biernat,  Jr.  as  chief  judge  of  Macomb County Circuit Court and Probate Court as well as 42nd District Court.

The  two-year appointment starts Jan. 1

At the same time, the court on Wednesday also named chief judges for the various district courts across the county.

State Court Administrator Milton Mack said Biernat “has provided solid, reliable leadership in Macomb County and we are grateful that he has agreed to continue serving as chief judge.”

“He  understands  the  value  of  using  technology,  process  reengineering  and  performance  measures to improve service to the public,” Mack added.

Biernat said he was honored to be reappointed as chief judge.

“We are in the middle of many exciting projects here at the court, “ he said, “including the implementation of statewide e-filing and a  multi-year campus  renovation.

“I  am  pleased  to  continue  serving  as  chief judge  during  the  implementation of these initiatives, and I’m confident that the short-term challenges we face will yield long-term improvements for the people of Macomb County.”

Judge John M. Chmura was named chief judge at 37th District Court in Warren and Center Line while Judge Carl F. Gerds III was named to the top job at 38th District Court in Eastpointe.

Other appointments included: Judge Joseph F. Boedecker at 39th District Court in Roseville; Judge Mark A. Fratarcangeli at 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores; Judge Douglas P.
Shepherd at 41A District Court in Shelby Township; and Judge Carrie L. Fuca at 41B District Court in Clinton Township.

The two-year terms of those judges also begin the first of the year.
