MSU allows white nationalist to speak

EAST LANSING (AP) — Michigan State University has agreed to allow white nationalist Richard Spencer to speak on campus during spring break.

The deal signed Thursday says Spencer can appear on March 5. But he’ll be at the livestock pavilion auditorium, away from the heart of campus.

Spencer ally Cameron Padgett must pay $1,650 and come up with at least $2 million in liability insurance. MSU will arrange for police.

The deal settles a lawsuit that was filed after MSU last summer cited public safety and refused to rent space. Padgett said the school was violating free speech rights.

Spencer popularized the term “alt-right” to refer to a fringe movement that’s a mix of white nationalist, white supremacist, anti-Semitic and anti-immigration beliefs.

Judge convicted of cocaine thefts ordered disbarred

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former judge convicted of stealing cocaine from evidence in the county drug court he founded has been disbarred from the practice of law in Pennsylvania.

The state Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the disbarment of former Washington County Judge Paul Pozonsky, who had sought a retroactive three- to five-year suspension instead.

Pozonsky was removed from criminal cases and resigned in 2012 and was charged a year later. He pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, theft and misapplying government property.

He was sentenced to 30 days to nearly two years and served the minimum term on work release before he was paroled.

Officials: Fifth-grader mistakenly gave pot candy to students

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Officials at an Albuquerque charter school say a fifth-grader mistook her parents’ medicinal marijuana for candy and passed it out to other students.

KRQE-TV reports the Albuquerque School of Excellence student handed out the pot edibles before teachers noticed her acting strangely.

Kristy Del Curto, dean of Elementary Students, says that student also complained she couldn't see. Del Curto says three students ate one gummy and the student who passed out the candy ate three or four pieces.

Pot gummies can be two to 100 times more potent than traditional marijuana.

Officials called 911 and paramedics monitored all the students to make sure they were not having dangerous reactions.

Paper cup allegedly used by Elvis Presley up for auction

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A paper cup allegedly used by Elvis Presley six decades ago in Oklahoma is up for auction, and bids have already surpassed $1,200.

North Carolina resident Wade Jones is a collector of all things Elvis. He tells the Tulsa World that the crumpled blue-and-white Dixie cup was snagged by a fan in April 1956, after Elvis performed at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Pavilion.

Jones says the fan named June allegedly retrieved the cup the day after the performance, right before Elvis left town for another show. A letter accompanying the collector’s item says June had asked to keep the cup “as a little memento.”

The auction on eBay closes Sunday.
