The Civil Rights Law Section of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, along with the Labor and Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan recently presented “The Art of Pleading:?Civil Rights &?Employment Law after Iqbal” at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. Speaking at the program were (left to right) U.S. District Court Judge Judith E. Levy and Prof. Alexander A. Reinert, director of the Center for Rights and Justice at the Cardozo School of Law in New York. The interactive session for practitioners on both sides of the “v.” examined what it takes to survive or prevail on a motion to dismiss under the federal pleading standards established in Ashcraft v. Iqbal  and Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly, with a focus on civil rights and employment discrimination lawsuits.
