Offering a helping hand to struggling students

The Macomb County Bar Foundation, the Macomb County Bar Association and the Kimberly M. Cahill Memorial Fund recently combined forces to provide some funds to help struggling students in the area. The three organizations presented a $3,000 check to the Macomb Intermediate School District’s Education Project for Homeless Children and Youth. Among those attending the presentation ceremony at the MISD offices in Clinton Township were?(left to right): Alesia Fye, MISD chief academic officer; Tim Kohler; Macomb County Bar Foundation president; Mike DeVault, MISD superintendent; Mary Lebioda, MISD homeless consultant; Rick Troy, Macomb County Bar Association executive director; Karen Trickey Pappas, MCBA immediate past president and MCBF director; Dana Warnez, MCBF vice president and president of the Kimberly M. Cahill Memorial Fund; and Florence Schoenherr, mother of Warnez and the late Kim Cahill, a former MCBA and State Bar of Michigan president who died in 2008. The funds will help pay for school supplies as well as clothing and hygiene items for impoverished or homeless students. Statistics provided by the MISD showed there were about 1,300 homeless students n Macomb County during the last school year.
