Firm welcomes founder's great-great grandson

Reising Ethington recently welcomed special guest Thomas Sprague (fourth from right), who is the great-great grandson of Col. Thomas Sprague, founder of the original firm in 1865. On hand to greet Sprague in the firm’s Troy offices were (left to right) Shareholder Steve Walmsley, Shareholder Bill Francis, Shareholder Matt Schmidt, Shareholder Shannon Smith, Shareholder Jeff Doyle, Shareholder Corey Beaubien, and Shareholder Steve Permut. Firm attorneys learned that Col. Sprague came to Detroit before the Civil War with his parents and brother. He was the founder and leader of Michigan’s 27th infantry division, and ventured into patent law after the war. Today, Reising Ethington remains focused on intellectual property law, predominantly patent law.
