State Bar section hosts Party’n With Plants
The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section will host a virtual happy hour and craft event — Party’n With Plants — on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Guests will plant, socialize and create a succulent garden with a kit from Party’n With Plants that includes the dirt, gravel and a real plant.
The kit can be ordered at Etsy.com/shop/partynwithplants (enter SBM in special instructions field).

SBM?virtual series focuses on unconscious decision-making
The State Bar of Michigan’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee is inviting attorneys to attend a virtual three-part training series on unconscious decision-making with Kimberly Papillon, a judicial professor and lecturer on neuroscience and fair decision-making in law, medicine, education and business.
In her series on the neuroscience of decision-making in the justice system, Papillon explores how brain imaging and decision-making studies can explain how we determine intelligence, veracity, threat and competence. With this understanding, participants can work to identify ways to ensure sound decision-making and fairness guided by science.
The training will take place via Zoom with:
• Part One: Friday, Dec. 4 at noon, an introductory session.
• Part Two: Friday, Dec. 11 at noon,, a program that will examine the implications of neuroscience, psychology and implicit association in decision-making.
• Part Three: Friday, Dec. 18 at noon, a program that will focus on moving forward and working toward solutions to the problems identified in Parts One and Two.

Man leaves $3K tip for a beer as restaurant closes for virus
CLEVELAND (AP) — A customer left a $3,000 tip for a single beer as a restaurant voluntarily closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The man walked into Nighttown on Sunday in Cleveland, ordered the beer and asked for the check, which came to $7.02, owner Brendan Ring wrote on Facebook.
Ring said the man wished him well and told him to share the tip with the four employees who were working brunch service.
As the man walked out, Ring wrote, he looked down at the tip and “realized he left a whopping $3,000.”
“I ran after him and he said no mistake we will see you when you reopen!”
Ring said he would not post the customer's name because he thinks the man wouldn't want that.
The owner said he and his serving staff were “humbly grateful for this incredibly kind and grand gesture.”
