Attorney Richard C. Lague, age 71, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at his home in North Muskegon after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born Oct. 1, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Peter and Laurette (Levesque) Lague. Dick attended Ohio College of Applied Science where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1962, he then went on to Xavier University where he earned his ABA in 1965 before graduating cum laude with his LLS from Indiana University School of Law in 1970.
Lague was a corporate attorney specializing in health care law. He was managing partner and president of Lague, Newman and Irish law firm and was currently practicing with Varnum Law as of counsel.
He served on many executive boards over the years, most notably serving as Chairman of the Board for Hackley Health Systems for over 30 years.
Lague was an avid scuba diver, enjoyed cooking, boating, reading, riding his motorcycle, and most importantly, loved spending time with his family.
On Feb. 24, 1989, Dick married Claudia Calderone at their home in North Muskegon and she survives him along with his two children, Steven Lague of North Muskegon and Michelle “Shelley” (Damon) Murray of Dexter, Michigan, and Claudia’s children Brook (Sherri) Connery of Park City, Utah, and Heather (Dave) Trumble of Muskegon. He also leaves four granddaughters, Kassandra, Amanda, Summer, and Paige, his mother, Laurette Lague of Atlantic Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Lague.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the Lee Chapel, Harvey Street. Visitation with his family will be one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Foundation for Muskegon or Mercy VNS Hospice.
