Attorney hosts open house

Attorney Lori Becker (pictured) celebrated the opening of her new office, Becker Legal PC  Collaborative Law Center of Michigan, and her achievement of being elected to the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals with an open house on Friday, June 18, in Bloomfield Hills.

"I am a 'collaborative' divorce attorney," Becker says.

"Collaborative is a new process that we have in Michigan that gives a healthier alternative to couples that are divorcing. We focus on the children's best interest and restructuring the family even though the couple will no longer be living together. It's an interdisciplinary team approach, which means that we utilize divorce coaches which are mental health professionals, financial specialists and the lawyers who are all specially trained in the collaborative process to work as a team to help the couple come up with their settlement and we do that before we ever file anything in court. And the key to make this so important is that we have an 'Opt Out Clause' in that if the negotiations do break down, everybody from the team has to withdraw, therefore the attorneys are locked in and we cannot go to court to fight and to litigate, so it's the alternative to litigation which makes it a nicer alternative for people and it saves a lot of money."
