Courage Awards presented by SAVE

The Oakland County SAVE (Serving Adults who are Vulnerable and/or Elderly) Task Force presented the inaugural Courage Awards to individuals and organizations that have taken action to further awareness of or prevent the abuse and exploitation of vulnerable adults on Wednesday, June 22, at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium in Pontiac.

Congratulating Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Derek Meinecke (far right) on his award in the category of “Courage to Lead” were (left to right) Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick, chair of SAVE, and Lynn Alexander, SAVE Task Force member.

“Elder abuse is a worldwide problem – Michigan is no exception – so we formed a group to try to make the public-at-large aware of the problem of elder abuse,” Sosnick said.

“We want to work together to change the system to deal with elder abuse so our loved ones in their golden years can be protected. We’ve decided to recognize those on the front lines in prevention of elder abuse, including Derek Meinecke who is an angel in that regard. He has been long involved in the Prosecutors Office, heading the unit that deals with those sorts of issues, and is well-deserved of this recognition.”
