Oakland commissioners commend Bullard for fraud investigation
Last Thursday, by consent, all 25 Oakland County Commissioners voted for a resolution commending the efforts of Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard Jr. to combat mortgage and notary fraud.
All 10 Democrats joined the 15 Republican members in approving the resolution, which states in part "that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, hereby applauds and support the efforts of Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bill Bullard Jr. to seek a formal criminal investigation of alleged recorded document fraud and legal recourse on behalf of the people of Oakland County."
The resolution goes on to direct the county clerk to forward the resolution to: "President Barack Obama, United States Attorney General Eric Holder, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Cooper, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County's delegation to the Michigan legislature and the Michigan Association of Counties and the Michigan Association of Register of Deeds."
"I am grateful for the bipartisan support the County Commission has shown on this important issue," Bullard said after the meeting.
"These fraudulent and deceptive practices threaten not only our economy and property values, but the accuracy of property records that are the very foundation of our system of private property rights. We cannot let this go on."
