Bingo worker loses suit over iced lot at church

DAVISON, Mich. (AP) -- A woman who broke her ankle in an icy church parking lot on the way to bingo isn't getting help from the Michigan appeals court. In a 2-1 decision, the court says Mary Walder could have avoided the conditions and chosen another entrance at St. John the Evangelist in Davison. She fell in 2008, needed surgery and had 10 screws placed in her ankle. Walder was 74 at the time and arriving to work at a bingo game. She sued the parish and the Lansing Roman Catholic Diocese. Walder did get some support from appeals court Judge Douglas Shapiro. He would have ordered a trial, saying the entire lot was a mess, no matter where Walder tried to enter the building.
