Canadian Energy firm brings 130 Jobs to Oakland County
Just Energy, an independent energy supplier with more than 1.8 million electricity and natural gas customer accounts throughout the U.S. and Canada, will locate a 130-person call center in Bingham Farms, with the help of the Oakland County Department of Economic Development & Community Affairs. The firm is hiring to fill those positions through the Michigan Works! Southfield Career Center.
"Just Energy is a welcome addition to Oakland County's Emerging Sectors® job creation and retention strategy as we approach the $2 billion investment mark," said County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.
Just Energy's business involves the sale of natural gas and electricity to residential and commercial customers under long-term fixed-price or price-protected contracts. A subsidiary of Just Energy Group Inc. of Canada, Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in 14 states and six Canadian provinces. The company is looking to fill 14 positions--seven English speaking and seven bi-lingual positions (Spanish) to begin Jan. 16, 2012. The jobs will pay $10.50 per hour plus benefits. The balance of the jobs is expected to be filled within two years. The company had been considering a competing location in Ohio before choosing Oakland County.
For more information about the company, see www.justenergy.com.
Oakland County's Business Development team helped the company with job recruitment and with membership in Automation Alley, a consortium of high-tech focused companies created in 1998 by Patterson. More information about the services offered to businesses by the county is available at www.GlobalOakland.com.
Patterson launched the Emerging Sectors strategy in 2004 to expand and diversify the employer base in Oakland County while attracting international companies wishing to establish a presence in North America. Since inception through November, 198 companies have either located or expanded their operations in Oakland County, pledged investment of $1.85 billion, created or retained more than 36,500 jobs and generated more than $47 million in taxes.
