Court will look at tough sentence in plea deal

KALAMAZOO (AP) -- The Michigan Supreme Court has agreed to review the case of a Kalamazoo County man who pleaded guilty to home invasion but got a stiffer sentence than expected. Shawn Brown says he was told the maximum sentence would be 15 years in exchange for a guilty plea. But when he got his punishment in 2010, the maximum sentence instead was 22 ? years. The state appeals court declined to hear the case. The Supreme Court will hear arguments at a later date and decide whether to accept a full appeal or take some other action. Prosecutors had asked the justices to stay on the sidelines. Published: Wed, Jan 4, 2012
