Ex-state lawmaker Bishop to seek prosecutor's job

PONTIAC (AP) -- Former Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop is running for the office of Oakland County prosecutor. The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press report that the 44-year-old confirmed his plans Tuesday, the same day he registered as a candidate. Bishop is a Republican from Rochester. He could not seek re-election to the state Senate in 2010 because of Michigan's term limits law. He works for the law firm of Clark Hill PLC and says law enforcement is something that is "very near and dear" to him. Bishop ran unsuccessfully for state attorney general in 2010. A message seeking comment from current Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, a Democrat, was left Wednesday by The Associated Press. Published: Thu, Jan 5, 2012
